SimplyClicked.com is a free online dating website where you won't be asked to pay to contact other members. The site's a bit basic but it seems to have plenty of profiles to choose from. It wouldn't be on a par with plentyoffish though, but it might make a nice alternative if you already have a profile on plentyoffish. Not too many features on it though so if your looking for chat and fourms then this is not the site for you.
